ZIRO, Apr 6: The Scientific Advisory Committee (CAC) of the Yachuli KVK on Friday advised farmers to adopt new and sustainable agricultural practices to increase production.
Addressing a meeting of the CAC in the conference hall of the Lower Subansiri deputy commissioner here, Deputy Director of Agriculture, Boria Nakum called for adopting well-planned and scientifically relevant agricultural practices.
“Our government aims to double the income of the farmers by 2020. This will be possible only if we plan well and motivate the farmers to adopt new technologies and go for multiple cropping,” he said.
Expressing concern over the complete dependence on the neighbouring states for seeds and saplings, Nakum volunteered to provide demonstration plots at the agricultural farm in Yazali for trial and production of seeds and saplings under controlled and uncontrolled conditions.
He further assured to provide funds for demonstration and awareness activities for the farmers.
ADC Nending Chatung, who chaired the meeting, hailed the efforts of the KVK scientists in providing technical inputs to the farmers and assisting them in adopting and implementing improvised agriculture and horticulture practices.
The subject matter specialists of the KVK presented their progress report and the action plans for 2018-19.
The meeting was attended by officials from the agriculture, horticulture, veterinary, and fisheries departments. (DIPRO)
