ROING, Apr 22: The Lower Dibang Valley district sports & youths affairs department organized a plantation drive at the general ground here to commemorate Earth Day on Sunday.
MLA Mutchu Mithi inaugurated the programme by planting saplings, and encouraged others to do so too.
DSO Raju Mipi said his department will continue to conduct such programmes, “especially to encourage the youths towards positivity.”
He said the sports & youth affairs department recently sanctioned a fund of Rs 2 lakks for the ‘I-clean Roing’ team “as an encouragement to continue their youth-based activities.”
Among others, Iduli ASM Chairperson Rajen Mickrow participated in the event.
In Pasighat, students, faculty members and staff of the Apex Professional University’s geography department celebrated Earth Day with the theme, ‘End plastic pollution’ in the university’s campus on Sunday.
Addressing the participants, Assistant Professor Sumit Gupta emphasized on keeping Earth clean and healthy, while Assistant Professor Oyin Modi spoke on the concept of Earth Day and advised the students to ensure an end to the use of plastic bags and instead to use other alternatives like paper or jute bags.
A quiz competition and a tree plantation drive were also organized as part of the event.
