DA holds public meeting on road construction issue

PANGIN; May 18: The Siang district administration on Friday convened a public meeting in the deputy commissioner’s conference hall here, in connection with the construction of the Bille-Migging road in Payum circle.
The meeting, which was attended by, among others, the DC, the Payum CO, GREF officials, GBs, and panchayat and public leaders of the areas/villages concerned, featured threadbare discussion to sort out the differences among various parties on the issue of realignment/new site selection for the road.
It was decided that a neutral, technical and apolitical committee would be formed to study the whole issue. The committee will visit the villages, conduct public hearings, and submit a report within 15 days.
DC Rahul Singh appealed to the public to not create hurdles in developmental work. He assured that the road would be constructed as per the survey.
Various parties, representatives and individuals from villages under Payum circle presented their viewpoints and highlighted their apprehensions and grievances. All the participants acknowledged, however, that connectivity to these far-flung villages was the need of the hour, and assured their cooperation in achieving it.
The GREF OC presented an overview of the project, including physical achievement made so far, and the reasons for the delay. (DIPRO)
