CHANGLANG, May 30: A three-and-a-half-year-old girl child was reportedly raped on 15 May in Changlang town.
One Manoj Prasad (34), a daily wage labourer, has been arrested by the police for committing the heinous crime.
Changlang PS Sub-Inspector Sunny Wangsu informed The Arunachal Times that the accused is an acquaintance of the child’s parents.
“On May 15, the accused and the child’s parents went to Old Changlang village to attend a festival, when the accused took the opportunity to kidnap the child,and raped her at a secluded place near the petrol pump. A woman passerby heard the child’s cry and managed to snatch the child from the accused, who then fled the scene,” the SI informed.
The police have conducted a medical test, and a sou moto case has been registered under Section 376/2(1) IPC along with Section 4 under the POCSO Act.
The Miao unit of the Arunachal Pradesh Women Welfare Society has demanded the strictest of punishment for the rapist as per the law.
