ITANAGAR, May 30: The All Tawang District Students’ Union (ATDSU) on Wednesday demanded immediate cancellation of Schedule Tribe certificates (STC) issued to three individuals in Tawang whose”genealogical lineage” it said is suspect.
The union alleged that Dr Sonam Tsomu, Dr Sonam Dolma, and Dr Pema Dolma possess fake ST certificates as their grandfather, Nawang Dondup alias Tete Pete, was not a member of any of the 90 families in the genealogy tree of Shyo village in Tawang.
The union said the three persons were selected in the medical officers’ examination conducted recently by the APPSC. It said it has constituted a committee, called ‘Operation Clean Drive Movement’ (OCDM), to spearhead the issue.
Addressing media persons at the press club here, OCDM chairman Pema Tsering said, “The people of the district are in danger from outsiders.” Informing that there are 199 Refugee Card holders in Tawang area, he said the three individuals in question also possess Refugee Cards simultaneously.
The union demanded that the state government constitute a high power committee to identify fake STC holders in Tawang and West Kameng districts. It said it would launch a joint ‘Operation Clean Drive’ with the West Kameng District Students’ Union against refugees in the two districts who possess fake STCs and are availing government benefits at par with the indigenous people.
The union also raised concern over rampant encroachment on government land in Tawang district headquarters. It said more than 80 structures have been built illegally by individuals in several areas inthe town. It also condemned the district administration for allegedly resorting to “pick and choose allotment” while issuing land allotment certificates.
The union demanded cancellation of the plots allotted to two individuals near the children’s park and at the quarters of the PHE&WS executive engineer.
It has threatened to launch a series of agitations if its demands are not addressed.
