AALO, May 31: West Siang Deputy Commissioner Swetika Sachan stressed on conducting disaster workshops in the district headquarters and in the subdivisions to assess the district’s disaster preparedness in view of the coming monsoon.
Addressing a meeting on disaster management here on Thursday, the DC asked the government departments to carry out vulnerability mapping and prepare contingency plans.
DDMO Dorjee Nima spoke on disaster response plan, inventory resources, damages caused by the last monsoon, and the India Disaster Resource Network.
Personnel of the Indian Army, the ITBP, and the BRTF,along with HoDs participated in the deliberation.
The Siang district administration also on Thursday held a meeting in HQ Pangin on disaster preparedness and to chalk out a comprehensive plan on disaster preparedness during monsoon season.
Addressing the participants, Deputy Commissioner Rahul Singh emphasized on roper planning and adoption of precautionary, preparatory, and preventive measures, including awareness generation, capacity building, and sensitization programmes to minimize losses and risk during the rainy season.
Each department was directed to prepare a contingent plan and standard operating procedures, and responsibilities were assigned to all the departments.
The departments were also informed that henceforth all DPRs, plans and proposals put up in SIDF meetings should mandatorily have a disaster management plan, and that resources should be earmarked for disaster preparedness activities.
Besides HoDs and administrative officers, Siang SP Irak Bagra, DDMO (in-charge) Pebika Lego, and others participated in the meeting. (DIPROs)
