ITANAGAR, Jun 23: Fifty-four participants from Naharlagun, Karsingsa, Chimpu and Itanagar participated in a three-day training programme on cultivation of mushrooms at Dokum Basti and Ganga here, which concluded on Saturday.
Organised by the CSIR-North East Institute of Science & Technology Branch Itanagar and Indo-Global Social Service Society (IGSSS), participants received demonstration on preparation of mushroom bags and mushroom cropping
Addressing the participants, Senior Technical Officer Dr Budhen Ch Baruah highlighted the prospect of cultivation of mushroom towards self sustenance as well as societal development. Stating that that edible mushroom is a very good source of vitamin D, he emphasised on organised cultivation not only for income generation but to combat malnutrition.
Advising against picking up any wild mushroom for consumption unless it is properly identified, he stressed on domestic cultivation of known varieties available at NEIST Branch Itanagar. He also highlighted the cost economics of small, marginal and commercial mushroom farming towards self sustain and their socio-economic impact.
