Explore ways to double farmers’ income: Mishra

ITANAGAR, Jul 7: Governor BD Mishra advised the officers of rural development, environment & forests, and planning departments to explore ways to double farmers’ income by addressing the challenges in transportation, preservation and marketing of their produces.
Mishra said this during a meeting with the officers at the Raj Bhavan on Saturday. The participants discussed issues like livelihood programmes, catchment area treatment, bamboo development, doubling of farmers’ income, and road connectivity, all of which will be taken up by the governor at the 67th plenary of the North Eastern Council (NEC).
“Challenges in the implementation of development programmes must be addressed at the earliest and efforts should be made to ensure that benefits of welfare programmes reach the targeted population,” he said.
He said he would propose establishing a research & development institute on bamboo in Arunachal Pradesh during the NEC plenary. (PRO, Raj Bhavan)
