Campus overrun by stray animals, RGU scholars seek admin’s help

RONO HILLS, Jul 17: The Rajiv Gandhi University Research Scholars’ Forum (RGURSF) has sought the help of the Doimukh administration to tackle the menace of stray animals in the university campus.
Informing that unattended domestic and semi-domesticated animals like cows, goats and mithuns roam freely in the university campus and create nuisance, the forum on Tuesday requested the sub-divisional officer (SDO) here to address the problem at the earliest.
“Not only these strays animal are littering the university campus but also destroying the trees, flowers and endangered medical plants at botanical and NSS gardens,” it said in a representation to the SDO.
Though the university authority through a public notice cautioned the cattle owners to not let their animals roam in the university campus, there have been no response, and no respite from the menace, it said.
“Rather, the number of the stray animals roaming in the campus has been increasing day by day,” it said.
Also, “a large number of mithuns can be seen roaming freely in almost all parts of the campus, including the general ground, department buildings, botanical garden, hostels, teacher quarters, and market line, etc,” it said.
