EMCHI, Jul 17: Fisheries Minister Dr Mohesh Chai on Tuesday visited the government fish farm here, as well as the private fish farms of Tana Hari of Emchi and Tana Akin Tara of Midpu village.
The minister was accompanied by Fisheries Secretary Geyum Padu, Planning Under-secretary C Ramesan, and officers from the fisheries directorate.
Dr Chai and Padu were apprised of the activities being carried out in these farms. They had a detailed discussion with the Papum Pare DFDO and the owners of the private fish farms regarding the benefits derived from the activities and the way in which they are popularizing aquaculture in the area.
The minister also gave away 30,000 fish seeds to the progressive fish farmers of Doimukh area under the free seed distribution programme, and released 10,000 fish seeds into the paddy plots of Tana Hari under the paddy-cum-fish culture programme which is being practiced in his plot for the past few years.
Dr Chai exhorted the farmers to adopt scientific management practices for better harvest, and advised them to remain in contact with the fisheries department for any technical guidance. He further advised the fish farmers to maintain proper records of production of table fish and fish seed and the income earned, saying such practices would help in self-assessing and analyzing the trend of growth in income.
“It will also help in planning future strategy and scaling up of activities in a planned way,” he said.
The team also inspected the renovation work on the farmers’ training centre.
