NARI, Aug 4: The Lower Siang Student’s Union in a complaint letter to the Deputy Commissioner on Friday requested him to cancel a ‘housie’ event being proposed to be held in New Seren on 15 August.
“Illegal gambling in the form of housie is being organized at New Seren by youths from Simen Chapori in Dhemaji district of Assam without prior permission from the administration concerned,” the union stated in the complaint.
It said that, despite repeated requests, organizers from the neighboring state continue to organize illegal gambling activities in the area.
Appealing to the DC to cancel the event, the union’s president Goli Doye also urged him to take steps to ensure that the New Seren CO headquarters starts functioning at the earliest.
