‘Avail benefits of govt schemes’

ITANAGAR, Aug 7: Textile & Handloom Special Secretary Nitu Tsering Glow urged weavers, SHGs and NGOs of the state to avail benefits of government-sponsored schemes to raise their economic condition and increase production.
He said that this while addressing a programme organized by Guwahati (Assam)-based Weavers Service Centre (WSC) and the textile & handicrafts directorate here to mark National Handloom Day on Tuesday.
All India Handloom Board member Tadar Akap spoke about various government schemes, and urged weavers to get enrolled in the handloom census being carried out in the states, in order to avail maximum benefits of government schemes.
He, however, lamented that the handloom census is not up to the mark in the state.
Among others, Textile & Handicrafts Joint Director Bornali Sur, Deputy Director Rade Hinda, and WSC Assistant Director Upen Ch Boro also spoke.
Members of WSC, individual weavers, and SHG members participated in the celebration. Display of handloom products by various SHGs, NGOs and weavers of the state was the main attraction of the celebration.
