ITANAGAR, Aug 16: The Don Bosco Alumni (DBA) of Itanagar and Childline Itanagar celebrated the 203rd birth anniversary of Don Bosco with a ‘ride against child labour’ they organized in collaboration with the Arunachal Bullet Club (ABC) on Thursday.
Speaking at the inaugural function at the Don Bosco Youth Centre (DBYC) in Vivek Vihar, Inspector General of Police Sunil Garg appreciated the various activities of the Don Bosco organization, encouraged the Salesian society to continue on the path of providing untiring service to young people and children who are poorer and at risk.
He congratulated the ABC for joining hands with the DBA and Childline to create awareness on child labour.
“None of us can ignore the great challenge that child labour is posing to our children,” said Garg. “There is no point of speaking of young India if we do not address the menace of child labour.”
The IGP assured to provide all assistance from his department to Childline in dealing effectively with the curse of child labour.
DBYC staffer Ruth Apon highlighted the youth-friendly activities of the DBYC, and thanked the DBA for being beside the DBYC in all its activities.
Don Bosco College Director Fr CC Jose urged the DBA and Childline to consistently work towards eradication of the menace of child labour.
“By perpetuating child labour, we are depriving our children of a future,” said Fr Jose.
The DGP later flagged off the ride against child labour. Twenty-five ABC members and members of other motorcycle clubs rode throughout the city of Itanagar to spread awareness on the issue.
