Farmers trained on king chilli packaging

KHENEWA, Aug 18: Farmers and gaon burahs of Khenewa block in East Kameng district benefited from a training programme on ‘Packaging practices of king chilli’ organized here on 16 August by the Agriculture Technology Management Agency.
Khenewa ADO Joymoni Beyong enlightened the farmers on the health benefits and economic importance of the crop. She exhorted them to take up its cultivation on a commercial scale, saying king chilli, a crop endemic to the northeastern states of India, “has huge potential of excelling even in the world market.”
She highlighted the cultivation practices, right from nursery seed bed to preparation and harvest.
The farmers were also educated on insect pests and diseases management, as the crop is highly susceptible to different viruses.
Senior AFA AB Sono identified the king chilli-growing farmers in the area and selected them as beneficiaries for availing government assistance under the RKVY’s king chilli production programme.
