MLA distributes relief materials

PASIGHAT, Aug 25: Mebo MLA Lombo Tayeng along with a team of government officers on Saturday visited Gadum, Gadum-II, Mer, Namsing, Kongkul and Seram villages in Namsing circle of East Siang district and distributed food materials as immediate relief to the villagers affected by the dry spell in the area.
Low rainfall and a dry spell in Namsing and other parts of the Siang valley have affected wet rice cultivation in those areas.
Expressing concern over the prevailing situation in the one of the rice bowls of the state, Tayeng said the state government has been apprised of the situation.
“All efforts will be taken up to mitigate the crisis,” he said, adding that genuine beneficiaries should not be deprived.
Tayeng instructed the district agriculture officer to submit the loss assessment report at the earliest for necessary action by the government. He asked the agriculture and allied departments to take proactive measures to provide income-generating, economically viable alternative cultivable schemes for the affected farming communities.
The MLA also directed the DDMO to submit a comprehensive report at the earliest so that relief assistance and other services may be delivered to the affected people on time.
He urged the farming community to submit proposals for taking up fishery, horticulture, and other alternative cultivation schemes. He urged the GBs to take up the grievances of the affected villages with the circle officer concerned for onward submission to higher authorities.
At Kongkul, responding to a memorandum seeking flood protection and anti-erosion works, the MLA directed the WRD EE to submit a feasible project proposal, and to explore and adopt technology to combat siltation and erosion.
He informed that efforts are on to equip the health centres in Mebo and other areas with diagnostic machines.
On the request for regular power supply in Gadum-II, Tayeng informed that provision has been kept under SIDF for village electrification for Gadum-II.
East Siang DC Tamiyo Tatak, who accompanied the MLA, emphasized on cleanliness, and called for transparency and accountability in delivery of government services.
The MLA along with the DC and the team of officers also inspected the damages caused by the Siang river in Namsing and Kongkul villages.
