ITANAGAR, Aug 26: The Tarh Welfare Society (TWS) has lauded the state government’s decision to lay a permanent bridge across the Pachin river, near the central jail, and to rename it after Tarh Peeju.
Tarh Peeju, a nine-year-old student of Alphabet Public School, Nirjuli, died on 19 May, 2016, when she was washed away by floodwater after she had saved two of her friends from drowning in the Pachin river.
The Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure cleared the Pachin bridge project during a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pema Khandu on 23 August.
The TWS appreciated the chief minister and his cabinet colleagues for the decision to immortalize Peeju by naming the bridge after her. It also lauded the government officers who extended help in this connection.
It may be mentioned that then chief minister late Kalikho Pul had announced to name a bridge over the Pachin river, near Jullang, after Peeju.
