The members of Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (APSCPCR) on Thursday rescued twenty two children from an unregistered orphanage functioning from Pasighat town. The APSCPCR along with East Siang district administration deserves kudos for acting promptly against the unregistered NGO, where large numbers of children were kept. The children belong to various districts of the state. It is matter of deep concern that this kind of unregistered NGOs are allowed to enroll students and also function for long time.
Thankfully due to the timely intervention of Child Welfare Committee (CWC) East Siang district along with district administration these children were saved. They were reportedly living in pathetic condition. The person running the Friendship Foundation Academy, an unregistered orphanage, who is currently absconding, should be held accountable for his misdeeds. Proper enquiry should be held so that all the people involved in it are strongly punished. This incident is a wake up call for the state government. There is pressing need to check the functioning of all the orphanages operating in the state. Also the parents and relatives who send their children to the orphanage should properly check its credential before admitting their children. There should not be any compromise with the safety and security of the children.
