ITANAGAR, Sep 1: A meeting of the state unit of the Rajiv Gandhi Panchayati Raj Sangathan (RGPRS) was held at Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan here on Saturday.
RGPRS national convenor Subhra Mitra Gogoi spoke about the RGPRS, its formation and functions. Gogoi accused the BJP-ruled state governments of suppressing the panchayati raj institution (PRI) in the country.
AIMC general secretary Jarjum Ete spoke about former PM Rajiv Gandhi’s vision to empower the rural masses, and about the 73rd Amendment Act of 1992 which introduced the PRI for rural development.
APCC general secretary Chera Taya spoke about the strengthening of the PRI. He exhorted the state convener of the RGPRS to reach out to the rural areas and create awareness.
IYC secretary Kirbe Dulom and state RGPRS convenor Jaya Joram also spoke.
