PEGING BOTE, Sep 3: Solung festival of the Adi tribe was celebrated with much vigour here in Siang district on 2 September.
Addressing the celebration, Power Minister Tamiyo Taga stressed on preservation of culture and local traditions, besides preservation and promotion of the local dialect, and urged the parents and elders to play an active role in this regard.
Acknowledging the agri-horti potential of the area, Taga exhorted the villagers to adopt organic farming. He also announced that an ambulance would be provided for the area.
Deputy Commissioner Rajeev Takuk sought cooperation from the public in the administration’s efforts to improve the existing roads and explore new routes for improving the overall road connectivity in the district.
The festival was celebrated with great fanfare and gaiety by a large number of people.
Solung festival was also celebrated in Paglam in Lower Dibang Valley district on Monday. The celebration was organised by the Paglam Circle Solung Celebration Committee.
Speaking on the occasion, advocate Tony Pertin said “festivals are meant for thanksgiving and enjoying with family and friends, but many forget the goodness of the festival and consume a lot of alcohol which is not good for health.”
Councillor of the Missing Autonomous Council, Raju Medok said the council is going to launch an anti-drugs campaign from 16 September to stop alcohol and drug abuse in the area.
Dressed in colourful traditional Adi attires, women from various villages under Paglam circle presented cultural performances during the celebration.
Villagers and students also came out in huge numbers to celebrate the occasion.
In Itanagar, Mumlung Raseng emerged as the champion raseng (cultural troupe) of Itanagar Solung-2018.
Eight rasengs had participated in this year’s competition.
Competitions were held in Ponung Nungkii Tokii, folk dance, group modern dance, and traditional dress show.
Mumlung Raseng, led by Ugu Tayeng Modi, stood first in three cultural events and was adjudged the champion.
