MoS inaugurates dist library

AALO, Sep 27: Union MoS for Home Kiren Rijiju inaugurated the West Siang district library here on Wednesday, in the presence of Library & Research Minister Jarkar Gamlin, Deputy Speaker Tumke Bagra, MLA Nyamar Karbak, DC Sode Potom, and others.
Addressing the attendees in the library hall, Rijiju described libraries as places where people can read works ranging from children’s comics to newspapers, and books by great writers, poets, and litterateurs free of cost.
“It is important to inculcate the reading habit among the young generations and start library movements and awareness programmes in circles and subdivisions of the district,” he said.
Replying to a memorandum submitted by DLIO Minam Darang pertaining to procurement of books, racks and computers; construction of a sub-divisional library in Kamba; and setting up a cafeteria in the library premises here, Rijiju assured to look into the immediate needs, and advised the department to send the proposals through the library & research minister.
The library’s Assistant Director Yayum Riba and DLIO (HQ) Yajap Kena enumerated the problems in the department, and spoke about the awareness programmes they have initiated to disseminate information and inculcate the reading habit among the DLIOs.
District Research Officer Tapoli Badu also submitted a memorandum, seeking a new research office-cum-museum in Aalo, saying the present one “is dilapidated and has outlived its utility.” (DIPRO)
