PASIGHAT, Oct 3: MLA Kaling Moyong kicked off the 17th Odam Ering Memorial Football Tournament at the JN College playground here on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, Moyong informed that the newly constructed stadium here would be inaugurated by Chief Minister Pema Khandu on 10 October.
Moyong advised the participating teams to maintain discipline and play the game in a friendly, but competitive manner.
He also highlighted the importance of sports.
Moyong appreciated DFA president General Gamoh and secretary Tayon Dai and conveyed his gratitude to the Ering family for organizing the tournament.
The opening match was played between LMB United and PCM (JNC) teams, in which the former defeated the latter 3-2 goals.
The tournament is conducted annually in memory of Odam Ering, wife of late Dr Daying Ering.
In total, 28 teams are participating in the tournament.
The winner and runners up team will be awarded with cash prizes of Rs 50,000 and 30,000 respectively.
The final match will be played on 20 October.
Retired Group Captain (IAF) M Panging Pao, DSO (Sports) Nada Apa, senior citizen Obyak Ering, host of officers, leaders, students and hundreds of soccer lovers witnessed the opening match. (DIPRO)
