RONO HILLS, Oct 9: The departments of commerce, management, political science and physical education reached the semifinals of the 3rd University Soccer League-2018 being played the Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) playground here.
An own goal by the history department team in the extra time helped the defending champions, the department of commerce, enter into the semifinals.The department of management team came from behind to beat RGU Research Scholars’ Forum (RGURSF) team 3-2 in the second quarterfinal.
Khoda Payang, Teli Tangum and Tarh Mathing scored a goal each for the winning team.
Kombong Darang and Tai Bai scored for the RGURSF team.
The department of political science beat Science-XI 6-5 via penalty shootout.
The match went to tie-breaker after both the teams were locked 2-2 in regulation and extra time.
Physical education department was the last team to reach the semifinals. They beat economics department 3-0 with goals from Litum Noshi, Tangak Taki and Tado Karnyik.
The commerce team will face the political science team in the first semifinal, while the management team will be up against the physical education team in the second semifinal on 10 October.
The final will be played on 11 October.
Besides the four semifinalists, 17 teams representing various departments, branches, cells, and associations of RGU participated in the league.
Organized by the university’s officers’ club, the league was kicked off on 28 September, informed RGU Joint Registrar (Academic & Conference) Dr David Pertin.
