NEW LAINWANG, Oct 22: The Khonsa battalion of the Assam Rifles (AR) on Monday conducted a free medical camp at remote new Lainwang village, located 43 kms from Tirap HQ Khonsa.
Attending the camp, local MLA Wanglam Sawin appreciated the efforts of the AR, and called it a step forward in the Army’s confidence-building measures.
“Such people-friendly initiatives will not only benefit the villagers but will ward off any misconception,” he said.
The camp was conducted by a medical team led by Col Robin Kumar of the 16 Assam Rifles, and benefited the people of Old Lainwang, New Lainwang, Old Katang, and New Katang villages.
The medical team treated 563 patients, including children, and distributed medication to the diagnosed ones on the spot.
The villagers were apprised of health and hygiene issues, besides HIV/AIDS, hepatitis, malaria, and waterborne diseases. An awareness drive on how to join the Indian Army was also conducted.
