APSCW, APWWS demand stringent punishment for rape accused

ITANAGAR, Oct 30: Strongly condemning the rape of a 15-year-old girl in Lower Dibang Valley HQ Roing, the Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW) has urged the law enforcing authority to conduct the investigation through a fast-track court to ensure early delivery of justice to the victim and her family.
Expressing anguish over the incident, the commission sought exemplary punishment for the culprit, and appealed to all sections of the society to cooperate with the investigation team.
The Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society (APWWS) has also vehemently condemned the rape, and lauded the police for its prompt action in nabbing the culprit.
The APWWS also requested the state government to constitute the APSCW at the earliest, saying it has been lying vacant since March.
“If the GoAP truly means to work for women’s safety, it should constitute the same at the earliest to help tackle women’s issues,” it said.
