ROING, Oct 31: MLA Mutchu Mithi laid the foundation stone for a multipurpose indoor hall near the Police Colony, here on Wednesday.
Addressing the gathering, Mithi said that steps have been taken with the laying of foundation of indoor hall to fulfil the dream of the people for making the district a sports centre for the state.
He also lauded the district administration, sports department and District Olympic Association (DOA) for creating conducive environment for promotion of sports in the district.
District Sports Officer Raju Mipi informed that the project is being funded under the ‘Khelo India’ scheme.
The hall will be developed as a special area games centre and dedicated to five sports disciplines — football, karate, archery, weightlifting and table tennis.
The project is being executed by the engineering wing of the Sports department at a cost of Rs 8 crores and will be completed within 36 months.
Among others, Deputy Commissioner Mitali Namchoom, DOA members and public attended the programme.
