Committee demands removal of Pare HEP head

ITANAGAR, Nov 10: The Pare Project Land Affected Welfare Committee (PPLAWC) has demanded immediate removal of the head of the Pare hydroelectric project (HEP) in Doimukh, Ashok Neog, over his alleged “indifferent and non-cooperative attitude towards the project-affected people.”
The PPLAWC said it has lodged a complaint with the chairman-cum-managing director of the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO), Shillong, Meghalaya, against Neog, demanding his removal from the Pare HEP. It has also threatened to launch a democratic movement if Neog is not removed.
In its complaint letter, the committee alleged that ever since Neog joined as the head of project (HoP), the relation between the officials of the NEEPCO and the project-affected people had deteriorated sharply.
It alleged that the HoP neither listens to the grievances of the people nor shows any interest in taking up welfare activities under the project’s CSR scheme.
“Several demands were placed before the head of the project but none of them have been addressed till date,” the committee said.
It said it had submitted a letter to Neog to arrange a meeting with the NEEPCO CMD to discuss issues related to jobs and local area development. “But he failed to arrange the meeting,” the committee stated in the letter.
This daily made several attempts to contact the HoP, only to receive a dead signal each time from his official telephone.
