Police seize modified, unregistered bikes

PASIGHAT, Nov 10: Nineteen motorcycles that were either modified or unregistered or had defective silencers were seized during a surprise check carried out by a team of police, led by Inspector Atan Taki, here in East Siang district on Friday.
According to the Motor Vehicles Act, alteration of any vehicle beyond the original manufacturer’s specifications is a violation.
Besides collecting fines from the owners of the bikes, the police team forced them to correct their motorcycles, with the help of mechanics, at the police station.
“Rash and negligent driving and drag racing not only endanger the lives of the motorists but also that of pedestrians, especially children and senior citizens,” DC Tamiyo Tatak said.
SP Prashant Gautam commended the police team, and sought the residents’ support in making Pasighat pollution- and accident-free. (DIPRO)
