LONGDING, Nov 17: The All Wancho Women Welfare Society (AWWWS) on Saturday seized huge quantities of expired goods and commodities from various shops here.
The seized items were later handed over to the police, reports DIPRO.
The AWWWS said it had conducted similar raids at various drug houses and shops on several occasions earlier and seized many such items worth lakhs of rupees.
“But no action has been initiated against the defaulters,” it said, and urged the district administration take legal action against shopkeepers who are found selling expired commodities.
Earlier in the morning, the AWWWS conducted a social service in the town and its vicinity, in collaboration with the LDSU, the WSU and the Bazaar Welfare Committee.
AWWWS president Satyowati Wangsa and general secretary Bantha Wangsu appealed to the shopkeepers and vendors to keep the township clean.
