51 Gold Medals to be awarded
ITANAGAR, Nov 28: Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) is all set to have its sixteenth convocation on Nov 30.
About one thousand candidates are expected to participate and receive their degrees during the convocation ceremony on Friday, where a total of 5867 students shall be conferred degrees for various courses, which includes 44 Ph.Ds, 29 M.Phils, 1398 postgraduate and 4396 undergraduate degrees.
In addition to this, a total of 51 Gold medals will be awarded – 1 Chancellor’s Gold Medal for the topper amongst postgraduates, 2 Vice-Chancellor’s Gold medals for the topper from amongst undergraduates and 25 gold medals for postgraduate and 23 for undergraduate courses for best performance among the first class division holders in each subject.
Prof. Nageshwar Rao, Vice-Chancellor, IGNOU will deliver the convocation address.
Prof. Rao, a renowned professor of management who has served as Vice-Chancellor of various universities, had earlier this year had joined as the VC of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), the largest Open University in the world. He is also the chairman of the National Task Force to develop parameters for assessing and accrediting ODL institutions for National Assessment and Accreditation Council.
Prof. Saket Kushwaha who recently took over as the Vice-Chancellor of the University said that the Convocation marks a very significant day in a student’s life, for it is after this day that all the learning of a student is really tested when the student enters society to serve and contribute.
“The true recognition and test of a student is only when he enters into the service of the nation after the convocation”, he said.
Expressing satisfaction at the progress of the preparations, Registrar (i/c) Prof. Tomo Riba said that in spite of the large number of candidates expected, the various committees are working at their utmost best to ensure that everything goes smoothly.
Joint Registrar (Academic) Dr. David Pertin shared that since the 12thConvocation of the University in 2013, the RGU has been regularly conducting this important event on 30 November and this is an achievement that has been lauded even by the President, the MHRD and the UGC.
The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh B.D Mishra, who is also the Chief Rector of the University will attend the event.
