ITANAGAR, Dec 2: Fashion Designer Tonu Riba has been assigned to design the national costume for Mrs India Universe Smita Deb, who will represent India at the prestigious Mrs Universe 2018 pageant, scheduled to be held in the Philippines on 12 December.
A native of Likabali in Lower Siang district, Riba will be the first designer from Arunachal Pradesh to design the national costume for India in an international pageant.
She has earlier represented Arunachal Pradesh in the North East Fashion Fest Delhi, North East Fashion Fest Guwahati, Vivel North East India Fashion Week, Mega Miss Northeast and several other events, besides designing the costume for popular Assamese music video ‘Jilele-Jilele’.
Interacting with this daily, Riba said that her designs are rooted to the culture of Arunachal Pradesh and Northeast India.
Informing that she’s working hard on her national costume to make Arunachal proud, Riba said most of her designs reflect a love for nostalgia.
“My designs are contemporary yet connected to their root of origin,” she said.
Meanwhile, Liromoba MLA Nyamar Karbak and Likabali MLA Kardo Nyigyor have extended their support and best wishes to Riba.
