PASIGHAT, Dec 3: Atleast 34 grocery and vegetable shops were gutted in a massive fire in one of the APMC market sheds at Gandhi Chowk here in East Siang district somewhere around Sunday-Monday midnight.
Fire tenders were pressed into service immediately to control the inferno; but nothing could be saved, reports DIPRO.
Investigation is under way to unearth the cause of the fire.
Deputy Commissioner Tamiyo Tatak and the DDMO rushed to the spot and took stock of situation.
Local MLA Kaling Moyong termed the incident very unfortunate and asked the East Siang administration to provide all possible help and compensations to the victims.
He advised all to take all precautionary measures to avoid such incidents.
Meanwhile, ADC Tatdo Borang along with a team of officers visited the spot on Monday morning and assured to provide admissible relief immediately to the victims.
Former Minister Bosiram Siram also visited the area and interacted with the traders and assured to deploy few young night guards for safety of the market area.
He also advised the fire fighters to remain alert round-the-clock with fire tenders to prevent incident in future.
