Itanagar gets innovation hub, space edn centre

ITANAGAR, Dec 8: The innovation hub and space education centre at IG Park here was inaugurated on Saturday, the first day of the three-day All India annual conference of heads of science centres and museums, under the aegis of the Arunachal Pradesh State Council for Science & Technology (APSCST) and the science & technology department.
Environment & Forests Minister Nabam Rebia, who inaugurated the centre, suggested that the science centre be named after former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
He urged students to take full advantage of the facilities at the centre, and assured to provide land and forest clearance for the construction of a proper road upto the science centre.
Rebia expressed hope that the conference would be useful in formulating innovative ideas for the growth of science in the state, and urged the students to take maximum benefit from the conference.
Mumbai-based Nehru Science Centre’s Director SM Khened spoke about the ups and downs faced by the scientists and the country during the formative years.
“The green revolution brought about a revolution in the country that changed the whole scenario in terms of making India self-reliant in food production,” he said, adding that the revolution was possible thanks to the favourable policies of the government and the untiring efforts of the scientists.
“Thanks to the immense contributions of the Indian scientists, India has made a giant leap forward in the fields of science and technology,” Khened said.
APSCST Chairman Bamang Mangha expressed hope that the innovative assets would help in creating awareness among the young minds on the importance of science.
Science & Technology Secretary G Ete said the prime objective of the department was to spread awareness on the importance and usefulness of science in everyday life, adding that “in the past, people were not even aware of science.”
Earlier, APSCST Director CD Mungnyak spoke about the creation of the innovation hub and the digital space education centre, and highlighted the activities of the science & technology department.
Itanagar MLA Techi Kaso was also present at the event.
