GOTOPU, Dec 15: Sagalee MLA Nabam Tuki on Saturday inaugurated a market shed constructed here in Papum Pare district by SHG Tapu Hapa.
The SHG, which was formed two years back under the Arunachal State Rural Livelihoods Mission (ArSRLM), had the shed constructed with money collected from their community investment fund, cash credit loan, and the SHG’s own savings.
It established the market shed in view of the difficulties faced by the women of Gotupu village in selling their agriculture and handicraft products due to lack of transportation facility to the link markets. They either faced difficulty in finding middlemen to transport their products to the markets, or had to pay exorbitant fares to hire vehicles to transport their products to the markets in Sagalee and Naharlagun.
The SHG, which received a gold medal from the state government on 15 August this year, decided to set up a market shed in Gotopu village as it is located in an area which buses and other vehicles from places like Leporiang, Seppa and Pakke-Kessang pass through, making it easier for the women to sell their agriculture and handicraft products.
The SHG has also constructed toilet facilities at the site for the convenience of customers and vendors.
