DAMBUK, Dec 16: Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Deputy CM Chowna Mein and local MLA Gum Tayeng on Saturday jointly inaugurated an ‘Orange buyers-sellers meet-cum-exhibition’ organised here in Lower Dibang Valley district by the horticulture department in collaboration with the Orange Festival of Adventure and Music.
The event is aimed at facilitating exporters and buyers from outside the state to form direct links with the orange growers of the state, help the farmers in marketing their produce for better prices, and popularize the Arunachal orange brand.
DHO Bullo Tama informed that the export of oranges for the first time from Arunachal Pradesh to Dubai in January this year was the outcome of the ‘buyers- sellers-meet-cum-workshop on orange’ which had been held last year at the same venue.
Tama said that this year 1050 mt of oranges from Dambuk has been procured by Spice Fresh, a subsidiary of Spice Jet, for export, while other players, like Kolkata (WB)-based Kreamy Craft and one from Karimganj (Assam) have booked around 3750 mt of oranges from Dambuk.
