RUKSIN, Dec 23: The block level sports meet for upper primary schools (UPS) of Ruksin block in East Siang district ended here on Saturday with distribution of prizes to the winners.
Rayang UPS bagged the highest 27 prizes in the competition.
Remi UPS won the boys’ football tournament, beating Oyan UPS 5-1 in the final.
Rayang KGBV won the girls’ football, defeating Oyan UPS 1-0. Rayang KGBV lost the Kho-Kho final to Mirem KGBV.
Usha Pradhan of Oyan and Talo Mibang of Rayang were chosen as the best athletes in the girls’ and boys’ section, respectively.
Pasighat West MLA Tatung Jamoh attended the closing function of the three-day sports meet, and encouraged the young players towards games and sports.
Highlighting the sportsperson-friendly programmes and policies of the state government, Jamoh advised the schoolchildren to take up sports sincerely and make careers out of it.
DIET Principal Biren Dutta highlighted the importance of games and sports, and described them as an indispensable part of school education.
Pasighat ADC T Borang, Ruksin EAC and chief patron of the event Tatling Pertin, BEO Tanyo Tapak, cluster resource coordinators, gaon burahs and public leaders attended the concluding programme.
A similar meet for Mebo block was also conducted on Saturday, and was attended by DDSE Jongge Yirang.
