LAKWA, Jan 25: Arunachal Pradesh Deputy CM Chowna Mein attended the foundation stone laying ceremony of the Royal Muong-Dum-Sun-Kham Buddhist monastery at Charimuthia Konwar Gaon here in Tinsukia district of Assam on Friday.
The chief abbot of the Royal Thai monastery, Phramaha Nipon Bhante, laid the foundation stone, while Mein planted a banyan sapling. Prof Issara Suwanabol donated the Buddha statue for the monastery.
Mein said the monastery would help revive the lost culture of the people of the area, and lauded the Ahom Buddha Sangha for their social activities for the uplift of their age-old culture, literature and spiritualism.
Guests from Thailand also attended the ceremony.
