New Yumchum adopted as model village

NEW YUMCHUM, Feb 7: The tourism department has adopted New Yumchum village in Changlang district as a model village for implementation of rural tourism programmes.
Addressing a function organised here by the department to commemorate National Tourism Day, Miao ADC T Rumi on Thursday motivated the villagers to take up tourism activities for economic uplift and employment generation.
Miao TIO K Yakang advised the villagers to show hospitality to tourists and maintain cleanliness, and to preserve their local culture and tradition.
She also dwelt on the importance of conservation of nature to protect the habitats of birds and butterfly species, as they serve as major tourist attractions in this belt.
Tour operators Bela Tikhak and Phupla Singpho shared their knowledge and experiences with the villagers, and told them about the importance of rural tourism and creation of homestay facilities.
