Takar Complex shopkeepers seek compensation

NAHARLAGUN, Mar 20: Alleging government apathy towards the shopkeepers of Takar Complex here who suffered huge losses during the recent anti-PRC riots, the Takar Complex Business Victim Forum – PRC Protest Day has sought compensation for all the victims, saying it would otherwise knock the doors of the higher authorities.
“Barring a few members of the Arunachal Chamber of Commerce and Industries, no government representative has visited the affected shopkeepers so far, not even to console them,” the forum’s convener, Tadar Robin, said in a release.
“The shopkeepers/owners suffered huge losses for no fault of their own,” Robin said.
He said the majority of the affected shopkeepers/owners were unemployed youths who had been running their businesses after availing bank loans.
“The affected businessmen and women have been facing a tough time as their only source of livelihood went up in smoke, due to which they are now unable to pay even their children’s school fees and monthly rents,” the release said.
The business community of the shopping complex in a meeting on Tuesday selected nine members for taking up the issue of compensation, documenting the properties lost or damaged, and pursuing legal procedures to secure compensation for the affected shopkeepers/owners.
