KHONSA, Mar 31: Forty-five youths benefitted from a series of training programmes on ‘piggery rearing and management, vermi-composting and mushroom production’ organised by the Tirap KVK at various villages of the district from 25-31 March.
The programmes, which included theory and practical classes, were conducted at Otongkhua, Khela, Chomuithung, Tirung, Dadam, Makat, Noglo, Old Tupi, Doidam, Deomali, Sipini, Namsang and Natun Kheti villages. The KVK team was led by its head Dr DS Chhonkar.
The training in piggery management & rearing was coordinated by animal science specialist Dr Parimita Dutta, who taught the trainees about pig rearing and management, selection of breed, housing, feeding, disease prevention, etc.
The training on vermi-composting was coordinated by soil science specialist Amit Kumar Singh, who spoke about selection of raw materials, preparation of vermi-compost with locally available materials, types of earthworms, etc.
The programme on mushroom production featured training the youths in preparation of dark room, selection of suitable species according to season, selection of disease-free paddy straw, cutting, sterilization, bagging, etc.
