Cash seizures in Arunachal surpass previous record

ITANAGAR, Apr 4: The total amount of cash seized in Arunachal Pradesh by various agencies engaged by the ECI has surpassed the previous record.
After Tuesday night’s bulk seizure of Rs 1.80 crore from Pasighat in East Siang district, the agencies engaged by the ECI have seized Rs 12 lakhs in cash from various parts of the state, raising the total amount of cash seized across the state since the enforcement of the election model code of conduct to Rs 5.62 crore on Thursday, according to the ECI.
The figure had stood at Rs 5.5 crore on Wednesday.
The total amount would be higher if the values of other seized inducements like drugs, liquors, etc, are taken into account.
Earlier, in the seizure report of 24 March, the state chief electoral officer had informed that 54014 bottles of various kinds of liquor, 100 litres of local liquor, 580 CGI sheets, 58 pieces of local ornaments, 60 mobile handsets, etc, had been seized.
According to the ECI’s information, Rs 399.505 in cash and inducements, including drugs, liquors, precious metals, and freebies worth Rs 1618.78 crore have so far been seized across the country.
No cash seizure has so far been reported from the northeastern state of Mizoram and the union territory of Lakshadweep.
