‘Team work important to check electoral malpractices’

ITANAGAR, Apr 8: Special expenditure observer (SEO) DD Goel underscored the importance of all the stakeholders working together as a team to check electoral malpractices.
Goel, who held a meeting with the senior officers of the state chief electoral office (CEO) here on Monday, urged the stakeholders to leave no stone unturned to ensure free and fair elections.
Stating that the CEO should make sincere efforts to prepare a level playing field by systematically stemming the rampant use of money in elections by political parties, he asked the officers to closely monitor bank transactions to check financial malpractices.
He emphasized on timely action against use of money during elections, adding that delay in taking action would defeat the purpose.
IGP Sunil Garg informed the SEO that even the chief minister’s cars and police vehicles are not being spared from checking.
Earlier, CEO Kaling Tayeng apprised the SEO of the steps taken by his office to conduct the elections in a free and fair manner.
The meeting was also attended by Additional CEO Kangki Darang, Tax & Excise Commissioner Anirudha Sharan Singh, all state nodal officers and the SP (Elections).
