LAPTAP, Jun 12: Training on scientific cultivation of passion fruit was organized by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Papum Pare district here on Tuesday with the purpose of introducing and promote commercial cultivation of passion fruit in areas where orange cultivation has been affected by citrus decline.
Subject matter specialists Hemanta Ngangbam and Tilling Tabyo highlighted the potential and suitability of passion fruit (Kaveri variety) in the existing soil and climatic conditions of the district.
Farm Manager Dr Nabam Gama stressed on the importance of group dynamics and cluster approach in the farming sector for holistic community development and self sustainability.
As an outcome of this programme, it has been decided that three ‘on-farm trials’ will be conducted by the KVK at Laptap and Mowa villages.
The programme saw the participation of Farmers Producer Organization (Sagalee) president Tana Tada, along with 23 interested farmers from Laptap, Mowa, Pech, Kheel, Chillo, Karoi and Mepsoro villages.
