ITANAGAR, Jun 24: The All Arunachal Pradesh Labour’s Union (AAPLU) has alleged misappropriation of the labour welfare fund sanctioned during 2012-13, and demanded appropriate action in the matter at the earliest.
In a representation to the home minister, the union on Monday alleged that Rs 4 crore sanctioned during 2012-13 for the labour welfare fund had been “misused in the name of construction of labour barrack and guesthouse.”
It claimed that the infrastructure was not handed over to the Labour Welfare Board but is instead still occupied by the contractors on grounds of non-release of their payment.
“The executing agency, ie, the APPWD, has violated all the established procedures by not floating tenders and not submitting the completion report. The labour guesthouse has been constructed adjacent to the office of the All Arunachal Pradesh Workers’ Union and still used by them without handing over the same to the Labour Welfare Board. This has deprived the registered workers of availing the accommodation facility,” the AAPLU said.
It also requested the minister to direct the chairman and secretary of the board to ensure that the recently sanctioned projects, such as “construction of transit accommodation/labour shed-cum-night shelter with mobile toilet and mobile creche facilities for BOC workers” under the RE&CS Act, 1996, is carried out through proper tender system.
The union threatened to resort to democratic action if its demands are not met at the earliest.
