ITANAGAR, Jul 16: The Consumer Rights Organization – Arunachal Pradesh (CRO-AP) on Monday succeeded in delivering justice to one Sinne Mikhu, who had complained to the organization of having been overcharged for booking flight tickets.
Speaking to this daily, CRO-AP president Achu Bagang said Mikhu had in a letter complained about the surplus charge on the flight tickets he had bought from a travel agency based in Naharlagun.
Mikhu in his complaint letter stated that he had purchased tickets for a Guwahati-Kolkata flight from the travel agency on Monday. The actual cost of one ticket was around Rs 2800 (including all taxes and agent charge). Mikhu said he had booked two tickets, which totalled to around Rs 5600, but he was provided with a money receipt for Rs 9058.
The total amount, Mikhu said, included a ‘base fare’ of Rs 3286 and tax and fees of Rs 5772.
On receiving the complaint, Bagang sought assistance from the Naharlagun police station and visited the agency. After a few minutes of discussion, the agency owner accepted his fault and refunded the excess amount he had charged.
“Later, the agency owner accepted the fault in the presence of police officials and promised not to exercise such act in the future,” Bagang said.
He also urged shop owners to be honest with their customers and charge only the amount the customers are supposed to pay.
