AALO, Jul 30: Aalo ADC C Chukhu called for carrying out screening tests “in an intensified manner” to detect tuberculosis patients, provide them with systematic treatment free of cost, and eradicate TB altogether.
The ADC, who said this while chairing a meeting on the Renewed National TB Control Programme here in West Siang district last Saturday, added that “social stigma and taboos associated with TB is also a hurdle, and creating awareness on this aspect is also essential to get greater coverage under the programme.”
DMO Dr Moli Riba and Yomcha MO Dr Jumge Padu informed that the immunization mapping for the district is being worked out comprehensively.
DTO Dr Karmar Dirchi made a PowerPoint presentation on the types of TB, patients support service, awareness creation, prevention of TB, social support, institutional structure, community empowerment, etc.
“Despite the best efforts of the health workers, 40 percent of the people who develop TB in India are still either not diagnosed or are not reported, and eradication of the disease by 2025, the deadline set by the government, is a tough task,” he said. (DIPRO)
