ITANAGAR, Aug 27: A ‘stakeholders’ consultation meeting of line departments for database sharing on environmental issues’ was held at the principal chief conservator of forests’ (PCCF) office here on Tuesday.
During the meeting, Environment Deputy Director D Dohu Robin spoke on the union environment, forest & climate change ministry’s new initiative
under the Environmental Information System – the Green Skill Development Programme (GSDP) – besides grid-based decision support system, and the national environmental survey and its importance.
PCCF Rabindra Kumar emphasized on identifying nodal officers in various departments for collection of environment-related information.
It was decided during the meeting to conduct GSDP training on wildlife estimation, people’s biodiversity register, and ‘para-taxonomy for unemployed youths’.
Robin requested Capital Complex DC Vikram Singh Malik to allocate fund for the GSDP training programmes with respect to segregation of solid wastes, biomedical wastes, incineration plants, etc.
The PCCF highlighted the potential of bamboo and bamboo products and NTFPs, and setting up of nurseries for exotic flowers, trees and orchids, which he opined would generate employment opportunities.
Kumar also stressed on the need for setting up medicinal plantation areas, and offered advice on implementing the grid system.
