ITANAGAR, Sep 1: Arunachal made an early exit from the girls’ U-17 Subroto Cup Football Tournament being held in New Delhi, after losing their two first-round matches.
Arunachal lost 0-6 to Meghalaya in their first match on 30 August, and went down meekly (1-10) to Chhattisgarh in their second match played on 31 August.
They were given a walkover against Uttar Pradesh after the latter failed to turn up for the match on Sunday, informed coach Pura Talo.
The coach said a sudden change in the match fixture and the Delhi’s scorching heat, which was hovering at around 35 degrees centigrade during the match days, and which the players of the state were not acclimatized to, greatly affected the performance of the state’s team.
In the boys’ section of the tournament, Arunachal have been clubbed in Group E along with Army Boys, Manipur, Sri Lanka and Telengana.
Arunachal boys will play their opening match against Army Boys on 7 September.
