YINGKIONG, Oct 22: The Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW), in collaboration with the Upper Siang district administration, organized a legal awareness programme here on Tuesday.
APSCW Chairperson Radhilu Chai Techi urged the gathering to discourage early marriage and polygamy, saying early marriages cause domestic violence and divorce, besides economic and emotional abuse. She also said “domestic violence and polygamy are closely related.”
Various other topics, such the powers and functions of the APSCW, the customary practices in the state, land and marriage laws, government schemes for women, the POCSO Act, compulsory registration of marriage, etc, were also discussed during the programme.
Among others APSCW members Techi Hunmai, Hoksum Ori and K Chotton, SP N Nega, DMO Dr Dubom Bagra and others spoke on various legal issues.
Members of the commission’s Yingkiong unit, along with HoDs, representatives of NGOs, ASHAs, anganwadi workers and school children participated in the programme. (DIPRO)
