SEPPA, Nov 7: The All East Kameng Bolero Pickup Welfare Association (AEKBPWA) on Wednesday organised a ‘traffic-cum-road safety awareness programme’ at the general ground here, under the aegis of the All Arunachal Pradesh Public Transport Federation (AAPPTF).
The programme was aimed at apprising the people, particularly the association’s members, of the traffic rules and safety measures, as well as their responsibilities while on the road.
Addressing the participants, AAPPTF president Dobing Sonam said the purpose of the awareness campaign was to sensitize drivers to the importance of their own safety and the safety of their passengers, “and most importantly, to inculcate a sense of responsibility among the drivers.”
The attitude and behaviour of the drivers play a major role in road safety, he said.
“It is the duty of the driver to follow the traffic rules and safety measures at all times, besides making others aware of the same,” Sonam said.
Stating that most accidents occur due to reckless and drunken driving, he appealed to the road users to avoid such things. Sonam also highlighted some of the provisions of the new Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2019.
District Transport Officer Pooja Sonam Natung underlined the roles that transport bodies could play in creating road safety awareness.
Advising drivers and vehicle owners to keep their documents updated at all times, Natung informed them of the procedures of applying for and renewing their licences and getting their vehicles registered.
AEKBPWA president Amitab Bagang and general secretary Lomi Sangno submitted a memorandum, highlighting the necessities of the association, to the AAPPTF president. Sonam assured to place the memorandum before the authorities concerned.
