CHANGLANG, Nov 29: Public information officers (PIO), assistant PIOs, FAAs, RTI activists, students, NGO representatives, GBs, and others participated in an awareness programme on the Right to Information (RTI) Act, organised here by the Changlang district administration, in collaboration with the Arunachal Pradesh Information Commission (APIC), on Friday.
Addressing the participants at the circuit house here, APIC Chief Information Commissioner (CIC), Joram Begi, said “the objective of the RTI Act is to bring transparency in the working of public authorities and contain corruption.”
He urged the PIOs and the APIOs to be “proactive and make information (available) on the public domain to keep the people informed.”
State Information Commissioner (SIC) Leki Phuntso spoke on “the procedures for seeking information under the act at various levels, under appropriate sections, as well as producing information to the applicants.”
SIC Goto Ete explained “the role of the SPIO/SAPIO; information to be disposed and exempted from disclosure; disclosure of third-party information; penalties imposed on PIOs in case of failure to supply information to the applicant on time, etc, under the appropriate sections.”
